Honey is like liquid Gold.  Not only is it good for you, but some also believe that honey brings you good luck and sweetens your life.  I’ve heard some say among our Latino cultures that honey has healing and positive properties.  Some people use it as offerings and others use it to fight off a cold.  But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many uses of Honey.

While shopping at Walmart, I came across Don Victor’s Honey.  It comes in a cute round jar with a thick piece of honeycomb inside.  You can find it in the Hispanic food aisle.  The honeycomb is what caught my attention.  To me, the honeycomb reflects the purity and nature of where honey comes from.  Just like bees are hard workers, looking for sweetness, so are Latinos!  I thought what a great gift this would be to give someone for the holidays.

There was a time that my father had a beehive that he himself would extract honey from.  He’d gift jars of honey to neighbors and loved ones.  This made a lightbulb go off and I thought of some friends and family who’d love to receive some Don Victor honey as a holiday gift.  A unique liquid gold with many uses.  It could work as a stocking stuffer or as a main piece for an unexpected surprise.  I specifically thought of my parents who love to try new recipes.  My father loves to make flan with honey and my mom makes a great dish of roasted carrots that calls for orange blossom honey.  I decided to give my parents a cookbook and the unique Don Victor Orange Blossom Honey.  You can gift a recipe book in which you’ve found a recipe or two that call for honey.  However, the book doesn’t have to include one as there are actually many ways you can incorporate a spoonful of honey to any meal to make it delightfully exquisite.

While surfing through some magazines, I also found an apple butter recipe that calls for honey and decided to cut this out for my parents.  This is also a great idea for that friend in your life that loves to cook and try new things.  Don Victory Honey will tantalize their palate with it’s raw unprocessed sweetness.

I grew up being told that it is always important to have honey in your home, so I thought of another way I could gift Don Victor Orange Blossom Honey this holiday season.  I made a gift basket for a friend who is hosting Christmas Dinner.  She loves to entertain and what better way to say thank you than to contribute to her event with snacks all will enjoy.

Mi mamá  me decía, una cucharita de miel para endulcar tu vida.  My mom used to say to me, a spoonful of honey will sweeten your life.  If you’re having a bad day, a spoonful of honey could melt your worries away.

Did you know that you could also eat the honeycomb? Spread it on hot toast, muffins or chew it like gum.  I couldn’t resist buying our very own jar for home.  You’ll love Don Victor’s honey and the honeycomb will be a great conversation starter with the kids.
