Loneliness in a crowded world – Let’s talk depression

What causes us to feel alone in an overcrowded world? I think it’s truly our thoughts that make us feel this way.

We all have that little angel and that little devil sitting on each side of our shoulders.  One is always pushing us to see the light, the cup half full.  The other is telling us everything and everyone sucks, and no one get’s it.  One wants you to go outside and absorb some sun-rays.  The other wants you to hide in the dark, under the covers.  For us over-thinkers, sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn’t.  It’s all about control, and how much control you have over your thoughts.  We know what we need to do, but it’s hard to do it.

Self talk, real talk, therapy, medicines, circles of community, people helping and people ignoring.  It’s crazy what our wee little brains go through.  We all have this unique engaging, nagging, loving and hateful tool that controls our very emotions.  Sometimes fighting back is hard.  We don’t talk about depression because it’s invisible.  We don’t walk around with signs that say, “Hey, going through depression right now”.  I wish we did because people can’t read our minds.  One of my favorite sayings is this:

This speaks to me so profoundly because many of us are smiling on the outside and pushing through the days while you know nothing about the battles we’re dealing with elsewhere.

You know nothing!  It can feel lonely in a crowded world.  Some people have no clue while others could careless.  The fact of the matter is we have to find the help we need for ourselves.  And we have to remember to be kind to others we deal with.  Let’s cut each other a little slack.

I need you, me, us to remember that we can get through it and that we’re not alone.  Our bad thoughts may want us to think we’re alone but we’re not.  You may have to go through stuff but you will get through it.  It may not be in a week, or a month but it will get better.  You must help yourself get better.  Can you call an employee assistance program?  Most companies offer these free of charge and they give associates access to a few free therapy sessions.  Does music help you battle the fight?  Dance, get up and dance!  Do you have a friend that is always there t listen?  Call on them.

Go outside, breathe fresh air, let the sunrays kiss your beloved skin.  Pray, mediate or journal.  Get in touch with yourself, and surround yourself with positive vibes and good people.  It’s true that some people kill your vibe while others uplift you.  BUT remember the most important tool you have to help you fight depression is your voice.  Your inner voice.  Self talk, real talk, love talk.  Love yourself.  You matter, I matter, we matter.  Be kind always, especially to yourself.

Thanks. This so true, and I couldn’t agree more. People in the world need to be less cruel and more understanding.

Hello Love, it is true that our world needs more love and understanding. It’s important we find that person we can talk to, that gets us and is there for us. I hope you are well. xo
