Kenyon Dixon BlogPost
Kenyon Dixon, Singer, Writer, Producer             Photo by: Tyshon Lowe

Kenyon Dixon is a young musician who was born and raised in Watts, California.  He’s always wanted to achieve more than what he had or was given.  He grew up in a very strict church household.  His father was a musician and sang as well, leading several different quartet groups.  His mother, also a singer, had him in church every day Monday thru Sunday. His environment on the other hand was nothing like that, going home to the projects, exposed to guns and drug violence and gang activity.  He describes his family as being half and half, half of his family was about the church and half was about the streets.  He took that, his whole experience and decided what he thought was best for him.  Lucky for us, he’s been sharing his talents with us and you probably didn’t even know it. You may have heard his physical voice singing background for some artists or heard his voice as a songwriter who has written for some big names.  Now it’s time you listen to his songs and be taken to a special place, enveloped in his voice.

Kenyon Dixon has worked with Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Nick Jonas, Usher, and Tyrese to name a few.  He shares that these experiences were getting him ready to be in the forefront because he knew from the beginning that the forefront is where he wanted to be.  Kenyon started writing for Tyrese and wrote on his Grammy nominated album, Open Invitation.  More currently Kenyon is working with Mary J and Brandy.  “I am grateful for the opportunity to have been afforded these experiences.  Right now I am re-establishing myself, I have a following, but I want people to think of my music when you hear my music, not just who I’ve worked with but my music.”

During an interview with Kenyon he shared the following:

You mentioned growing up in the church and being immersed with people that were musically talented.  Who was the one that actually pushed you into this saying this is something you can do or was it just what you were seeing?

For me it was a combination of both, growing up in entertainment, I came from a family that already knew my capability before I knew it. I didn’t realize it at the moment, but my whole life they were preparing me for it.  It wasn’t a surprise when they heard me sing like “oh you’re good”, they know that, it was just a matter of okay now we’ll put your energy into this specific thing.

Where were you when you found out you had a Grammy nomination for writing a song?

I was actually at the Grammy’s when I found out and I was singing background with Tyrese, it was great because the nomination was for Tyrese.

Kenyon is a triple threat as a singer, writer, and producer.  He also shared with us that he was a professional dancer by the age of 7!  When you listen to his music you’ll feel moved.  Many of his beats feel transcendent to me.  You will not be disappointed.  You can get both of his solo projects Higher Ground and Twenty Four on iTunes. Kenyon is currently working on his next release called SUPAFLY. It’s an EP set to be released mid December 2015.  You can listen to snippets of his upcoming music on his Instagram page, check it out here.  Make sure to listen to his music, it definitely has a certain vibe to it and once you hear him you’ll never want to stop listening.
