My 5 year old daughter is a complex little person.  She is sweet and loyal, she’s affectionate and tough, she stands her ground.  In lot’s of ways she’s a lot like me.  My 8 year old son is hilarious and silly, goofy and protective.  He is affectionate but you have to ask him for hugs or nose kisses.  He laughs at everything a lot like his dad.  Being a working mom, blogger, editor, wife, daughter, friend is bananas but fun!  When you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work, we all know that.  But when you don’t love what you have to do, but gotta do it, that’s when it becomes a chore.  For me, that’s cleaning!
Cleaning up after the kids, after the dogs, after a normal household is just blah, it get’s annoying & tiring!  Ain’t nobody got time for that!  If only everyone would do their part right?  I told my kids about a month ago that I feel like Cinderella and they, my son and daughter are the two mean sisters! HA! Their replies were something like, “oh no mommy, we don’t mean to make you feel that way”, “we’ll help you”, “we love you”! The guilt trip worked, not what I was going for but it turned out to be that way.  I got help that day, but it is not something that they do all the time.  My kids are helpful, but you have to remind them.  And while my son is AWESOME at cleaning up, my daughter lacks this skill, where have I gone wrong?  Every time I ask her to clean up she’ll say, “But I don’t know how to clean”.  “Um, yes you do, just pick up your crap and put it where it belongs”.  Still no luck, everything gets thrown into the closet floor or under the bed (hand to forehead moment).  At the same time though, while she gives me this push back, she does help me when I ask her to do specific small chores like:
throw this away
put this in that drawer
put this over there
turn off the TV
put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket
She tends to do more in that sense then my son.  My son will clean up, really well, all in one session.  He likes a clean room so he doesn’t mind picking up.  My daughter on the other hand needs clear, detailed instruction lol!  If I ask my son to do something, I usually get a “later”, or “in a minute mom”, which turns into an hour.
I’m sharing all of this to tell you something really funny!  At least it made ME crack up!  This morning I asked my precious princess to pick up a shirt that was on her floor and put it into the laundry basket and to take some cups from her nightstand to the sink.
She goes, “I guess it turns out that I’m actually the Cinderella”
Ha Ha!!! I busted out laughing!  The Nerve! Aaahh things kids do and say, gotta love it! Can you believe her?  She grabbed a crown and everything, such a drama queen!  I snapped a picture and had to share, I love it!

hahaha funny story. They pick up the darnest things. They know exactly when to use it against you. Ha. I’m sure as she gets older she will be better at cleaning. 🙂

I agree, it’s such a great age right now. She won’t be able to get away with “I don’t know how to clean” for much longer 😉
